A perfect dram for autumn – a robust, waxy and slightly sherry Ben Nevis 7 year old. This is a 2012 vintage that was matured in a second fill sherry cask, giving it an earthy, leafy and waxy profile, as well as an ever-present distillery character. Bottled at 48.5%, the trademark of this series, it is pleasant to drink.Decadent Drinks is an independent bottler of whiskey and other spirits. Angus MacRaild – also author of the blog WhiskySponge – is the founder. His philosophy is quality, fun and not taking life too seriously. This offbeat side is found both in his blog and on the labels of his bottlings with this character of the sponge declined in very varied ways.
These bottlings, mostly single barrels, are divided into different brands such as Spongeverse, Equinox & Solstice and Equilibrium. The Spongeverse includes WhiskySponge, RumSponge, CognacSponge, ArmagnacSponge and WineSponge.
TASTING NOTES
Nose : An oily, fatty, grassy distillate with a layering of sweet, sweet sherry and dark fruits. There is also a pleasantly warming peppery note and classic Ben Nevis wax.
Mouth : Lots of body and fat on the palate. Waxes, mechanical oils, pepper and notes of sweet black fruits.
Finish : Surprisingly long and persistent, waxy, peppery and oily.
